Practical Basketball badges explained

Start with the action your build repeats most, fund the badges that make that action reliable, then add counters for the mode you play. Use the suggested levels as starting points and adjust them around your available badge points.

Do not max every popular badge. A primary ball handler, corner lock and screen-setting big spend their points on different possessions.

Choose badges in four passes

This order keeps a build focused and makes it easier to remove points that do not affect its normal possessions.

1. Name the primary job

Choose one first responsibility: create from the ball, finish at the rim, shoot off the catch, defend the ball, protect the rim or set screens.

ROLE BEFORE RATING

2. Fund the repeated action

Put the first points into the badges that affect the action you expect to use every possession, such as Quick Draw for a shooter or Locks for an on-ball defender.

CORE BADGES FIRST

3. Add one mode counter

Use Navigator against screen-heavy teams, Post Lockdown against inside scorers, or Quick Pass when fast rotations punish slow ball movement.

1v1 · 2v2 · 3v3 · 5v5

4. Test and move one tier

Play a short set without changing animations or attributes. Move one badge up or down only when you can identify the possession it changed.

CHANGE ONE VARIABLE

Finishing badge priorities

Finishers should separate layup timing, contact finishing, lob finishing and long dunk takeoffs instead of treating every rim attempt as the same action.

Gymnast

Improves the timing window for jelly finishes. It is one of the strongest first upgrades for guards who use advanced layups instead of relying only on dunks.

HIGH PRIORITY · JELLY GUARDS · SILVER+

Traffic Finisher

Supports finishes through bumps and contact in the paint. Raise it when the build attacks crowded lanes; lower it when most attempts are uncontested cuts or open dunks.

HIGH PRIORITY · SLASHERS · ROLE-BASED TIER

Perfect Lays

Makes layup timing more reliable. Silver or Gold is a practical starting range for guards, while a layup-first build can justify a higher tier.

CORE · LAYUP BUILDS · SILVER–GOLD

Alley Finisher

Supports self lobs and passes finished above the rim. Use Silver for occasional lobs and invest higher only when alley-oops are a regular part of the role.

LOB ROLE · SILVER START · GOLD+ FOR SPECIALISTS

High Flyer

Extends driving-dunk takeoff range. It fits athletic slashers that consistently attack from outside the restricted area and is less useful to low-dunk builds.

HIGH PRIORITY · DUNKERS · HIGH TIER

Aerial Assault, Relentless and Putback Finisher

Aerial Assault is for floater-heavy guards. Relentless is mainly a stamina safeguard, while Putback Finisher remains situational because the attempt still depends on timing and rebound position.

SITUATIONAL · FUND ONLY WHEN USED

Shooting badge priorities

Your shot type determines the layout. Separate standing shots, moving shots, catch-and-shoot possessions, mid-range attempts and fades before spending points.

Quick Draw

Speeds up the release and helps beat closeouts. Treat it as a core team-mode badge, especially in 3v3 and 5v5 where defenders rotate from shorter distances.

CORE · TEAM MODES · HIGH TIER

Formless Shooter or Limitless Shooter

Formless supports moving shots and can activate in the mid-range. Limitless supports standing long-range shots. Choose the one that matches your normal footwork before paying for both.

PRIMARY SHOT TYPE · CHOOSE BEFORE STACKING

Catch and Pop plus Corner Spot-Up

These fit off-ball shooters who space the floor, receive a pass and shoot without creating first. They are stronger for corner locks and poppers than for a full-time isolation guard.

HIGH PRIORITY · SPOT-UP AND POPPER

Tunnel Vision

Helps against late closeouts and contested releases. Add it after the core shot-type badge and Quick Draw rather than using it to justify poor shot selection.

SECONDARY · CLOSEOUT COUNTER

Mid-Range Maestro

Invest when pull-ups, post fades or open two-point shots are part of the game plan. A build that rarely takes mid-range shots can keep those points elsewhere.

ROLE-BASED · MID-RANGE CREATORS

Fade Artist

Use it only when the player can consistently create and time fades. It is a specialty badge, not a default upgrade for every shooter.

SPECIALIST · FADE USERS ONLY

Playmaking badge priorities

Primary creators need ball security and efficient movement first. Passing badges become more valuable as court size and teammate dependency increase.

Space Maker

Supports stepbacks, Euros and gather-based creation. It is a core badge for guards who deliberately use separation moves before the shot or drive.

CORE · SHOT CREATORS · HIGH TIER

Quick Handles and Tireless Handles

Quick Handles improves the creator's move speed, while Tireless Handles protects longer possessions from stamina loss. Primary handlers can prioritize both; secondary handlers can stop lower.

HIGH PRIORITY · PRIMARY HANDLERS

Quick Pass

Speeds up ball movement and reduces slow, vulnerable passes. Silver is a useful floor; main distributors and larger modes can justify Gold or higher.

TEAM CORE · SILVER+

Dimer and Dish Out

Dimer supports teammates who rely on your setup. Dish Out fits players who frequently abort a layup or shot attempt and pass to the open teammate.

TEAM SUPPORT · PLAYMAKERS

Soul Snatcher

Supports ankle-break reactions, but the source reports that Silver can already produce them. Raise it only if creating those reactions is central to the build.

OPTIONAL · SILVER START

Fast Break

Useful in transition but not a first upgrade for half-court creators. Silver is the suggested starting point when the mode regularly produces open-floor possessions.

SITUATIONAL · TRANSITION · SILVER START

Defense and screening badge priorities

Start with the assignment you guard. Perimeter defenders need movement and contest tools; bigs add rim, rebound, post and screen badges.

Locks

A core on-ball defense badge for staying attached to the handler. Fund it early on lockdowns and any build expected to take the main perimeter matchup.

CORE · ON-BALL DEFENDERS · HIGH TIER

Intimidator

Improves contest-oriented defense and is repeatedly prioritized across guard, wing and big layouts. It belongs in the core group before narrow situational badges.

CORE · ALL DEFENSIVE ROLES · HIGH TIER

Tough Ankles

Protects defenders against dribble reactions and ankle breaks. Gold or Diamond is a useful competitive target when guarding strong creators.

CORE · PERIMETER · GOLD–DIAMOND

Navigator

Helps defenders get through screens. Start around Silver or Gold, and prioritize Gold in organized 3v3 or 5v5 against pick-and-roll teams.

TEAM-MODE CORE · SILVER–GOLD

Rim Saver, Trampoline and Lurker

Rim Saver supports paint protection, Trampoline supports blocks, and Lurker helps chasedown attempts. Trampoline at Gold or Diamond is a useful block-focused target.

RIM PROTECTORS · ROLE-BASED HIGH TIER

Post Lockdown and Rebound Chaser

Post Lockdown is a core counter for bigs facing inside scorers. Rebound Chaser can contribute even at Bronze when the build actively jumps for boards.

BIGS · POST LOCK CORE · REBOUND BRONZE+

Iron Screens

A defining badge for a screen-setting big. Invest heavily when creating contact screens is a regular job; skip it on builds that never screen for the handler.

SCREEN BIGS · HIGH TIER

Hustler

The main explainer treats this as a low-priority use of points. Fund the matchup-specific contest, screen, rim or rebound tools first.

LOW PRIORITY · LAST POINTS

Starter badge cores by role

These are compact starting cores, not complete layouts. Add a specialist badge only when the role actually uses that action.

Primary creator

Choose Formless or Limitless, then add Quick Draw, Space Maker, Quick Handles, Tireless Handles and Quick Pass. Add Gymnast or Perfect Lays when rim pressure is part of the offense.

CREATE · SHOOT · MOVE THE BALL

Spot-up lockdown

Prioritize Catch and Pop, Corner Spot-Up and Quick Draw on offense. Build the defensive core around Locks, Intimidator, Tough Ankles and Navigator.

SPACE · CONTEST · NAVIGATE SCREENS

Slasher and lob threat

Build around Traffic Finisher and High Flyer, then choose Gymnast or Perfect Lays for timing and Alley Finisher when self lobs or teammate lobs are frequent.

RIM PRESSURE · CONTACT · LOBS

Screen-setting big

Start with Iron Screens, Intimidator, Rim Saver, Post Lockdown and Rebound Chaser. Add Quick Pass or Dimer for short-roll passing and Catch and Pop only when the build spaces the floor.

SCREEN · PROTECT · REBOUND
