Build the lineup around three jobs, not three scorers
A stable 3v3 team needs one player to create the first advantage, one to defend and punish help, and one to screen, protect the rim and finish the possession. Choose the three roles together before copying any individual build.

Choose a lineup that covers creation, defense and possession control
The safest trio gives every player one clear first job while keeping enough shooting to stop the defense from sitting in the paint.
Point Guard + Lockdown SG + Power Forward
The 6'2 point guard organizes the possession, the 6'8 lockdown takes the strongest opposing creator and spaces from the wing or corner, and the 6'9 power forward screens, slips, pops and switches. This is the most balanced route for teams learning 3v3 structure.
RECOMMENDED · BALANCED
Two-Way Scorer + Lockdown SG + Center
Use the 6'9 two-way scorer as the tall creator when the opposing guard keeps targeting a small frame. The lockdown preserves perimeter coverage and the 6'10 center controls screens, rebounds and the paint. The trade-off is less pure passing and less recovery speed than the PG + PF lineup.
SIZE + REBOUND
Point Guard + Do-it-All Wing + Power Forward
This lineup replaces the pure lockdown with a secondary handler who can attack a rotated defense, pass and help at the rim. It creates more offense after the first pass, but the wing must still accept the hardest perimeter assignment when the point guard cannot.
DOUBLE CREATION
6'8 shooting guard as the secondary scorer
The supplied three-build comparison includes a 6'8 / 6'9 wingspan / 180 SG with 93 Mid-Range, 93 Three-Point, 83 Ball Handle, 63 Pass Accuracy, 90 Perimeter Defense, 90 Lateral Speed and 95 Speed. It can replace the pure lockdown when the lineup needs a second shot creator, but its 60 Interior Defense needs stronger back-line help.
SHOOT + HANDLE + PERIMETER
When to use the 7'0 post-defense PF
The 7'0 / 270 alternative from the supplied video brings 96 Post Control, about 94 Block and 90 Rebound with Diamond Rebound Chaser, Post Lockdown and Trampoline. Use it against size-heavy teams when the loss of perimeter recovery is acceptable.
SIZE COUNTER
Give every player a first read before the possession starts
Clear roles reduce duplicated cuts, late passes and two teammates trying to occupy the same space.
Primary creator: force the first rotation
Use the high screen or direct matchup to make one defender help. Shoot when the on-ball defender goes under, drive when they crowd the line, and pass before the help defender can cover both the ball and teammate.
SHOOT · DRIVE · PASS
Defensive wing: connect both ends
Start in the weak-side wing or corner, stay far enough from the screener to preserve the driving lane, and cut only when the paint opens. On defense, take the strongest perimeter creator and communicate the first switch or help call.
SPACE · CUT · LOCK
Mobile big: create a second option
Set the screen at an angle, then immediately roll, slip or pop. After the shot, protect the rebound before leaking out. The big also anchors help against post mismatches and direct rim runs.
SCREEN · FINISH · REBOUND
Use one action to move all three defenders
The supplied 3v3 footage works best when the second and third players react to the same defensive mistake instead of waiting for an isolation to finish.
High screen into roll or pop
The big screens the on-ball defender and leaves the spot immediately. Roll when the opposing big steps toward the guard; pop when the paint defender stays home and the passing window opens outside.
FORCE TWO DEFENDERS TO CHOOSE
Off-ball screen for the weak-side shooter
When the ball screen stalls or the defense loads toward the creator, the third player can receive an off-ball screen and move into the corner or wing. Both 3v3 sources call for this action when stationary spacing stops producing an opening.
MOVE THE THIRD DEFENDER
Hit the open player behind the help
If the weak-side defender steps into the drive or post mismatch, pass to the space they abandoned. The streamer footage shows the open corner disappearing when the teammate stands too high or the pass arrives after the helper recovers.
HELP ARRIVES → BALL LEAVES
Take the two when the three is removed
Late in a close possession, do not force a covered three only because it is worth more. Use the open dunk, layup or roll when the defense sells out above the line, then trust the next defensive possession.
OPEN TWO > FORCED THREE
Reset before the shot clock becomes the defense
If the first screen creates nothing, return the ball and change the angle early. The 3v3 POV shows rushed isolation and late passes becoming the only options once the clock reaches the final seconds.
RESET EARLY
Protect the three first, then help with a recovery plan
Three-player defense fails when the helper leaves without naming who covers the next pass. Set matchups early and make every help call include a recovery assignment.
Assign the best defender to the best creator
Call the matchup before the check-in. If one defender is repeatedly losing the same action, switch the wing onto the creator instead of waiting for another open shot.
MATCHUP BEFORE POSSESSION
Play high against known shooters
The streamer 3v3 footage repeatedly calls for high coverage and no threes. Give up a contested two before an uncontested three, especially when the offense needs one shot to end the game.
NO CLEAN THREES
Help the post mismatch, then recover outward
When a smaller player is sealed, the nearest defender shows early enough to stop the direct finish while the third player splits the two shooters. Post Lockdown on the primary defender reduces how much help the team must send.
SHOW · SPLIT · RECOVER
Do not gamble away the back line
The dedicated 3v3 POV explicitly warns against chasing an interception that is not certain. A missed steal turns the possession into a two-on-one and forces the rim protector to choose between a dunk and an open kick-out.
STAY CONNECTED
Use the shot clock as a fourth defender
When the offense is already late, stay solid and remove the first clean look. Do not rescue the possession with an unnecessary jump, reach or full double-team in the final seconds.
LATE CLOCK: NO GAMBLE
Move Badge points toward the job the lineup needs
A 1v1 Badge layout leaves out passing, spot-up shooting, screens and recovery tools that decide 3v3 possessions.
Primary creator
Keep Quick Handles and Tireless Handles for creation, then fund Quick Pass and Dimer before adding another isolation Badge. Navigator is more valuable in team modes when the guard must recover through traffic and screens.
CREATE + DELIVER
Defensive wing
Build around Locks, Intimidator, Tough Ankles and screen navigation, then add Thief only when the rating and positioning justify it. Catch and Pop or Corner Spot-Up gives the wing an offensive job without taking the ball from the creator.
LOCK + SPACE
Screening big
Prioritize Iron Screens, Rebound Chaser, Rim Saver, Post Lockdown and the finishing or spot-up Badge used after the screen. The 6'10 do-it-all source recommends reducing solo-defense tiers to add Quick Pass, Dimer and Catch and Pop in team modes.
SCREEN + BOARD + OUTLET
Secondary creator
When the lineup uses a do-it-all wing instead of a pure lockdown, keep enough passing to attack the second rotation. Do not copy a no-pass 1v1 allocation into the weak-side creator role.
